The lovely Schweiss Home designed by William A Bernoudy is available to purchase. This is a rare opportunity to buy a gem of a home located on a quiet Ladue lane- Daniel Rd. The lot is large and private....which is a problem....the lot is too valuable. This house is in real danger of being torn down by someone who just wants the lot. The price is somewhere around $410,000 which is also a good price point to buy a lot in Ladue. Someone needs to step up and buy this treasure before it is lost. The current owners would hate to have the house torn down, though economics become a reality. This home is small and would be ideal for a single person or close couple. It would also be a great St. Louis pad for a person or couple who travels a lot. The concrete flooring has a diamond motif that you can find at the Frank Lloyd Wright house at Ebsworth Park in Kirkwood. New HVAC, electric, plumbing....and more, though still needs some finishing work.
Find out more about the Schweiss and see more pics HERE

Today the sale of 1506 S. Warson Rd in Ladue closed. The home was a renovation project that was abandoned a few years ago. The property has been a Ladue eye-sore for a while. Recently the property become a bank-owned property. I represented the Seller. The new owner plans on completing the renovation project...in fact, I saw a construction trailer already in the driveway this afternoon.

This bank-owned property is located on one of Ladue's most prestigious roads. This house needs lots of TLC and you will win the hearts of all of Ladue for transforming this eye-sore into a showplace. The house is in pretty rough shape, so it could also be a tear-down. Coming Soon!

Yesterday I took my Aunt Bunny over to see 4 Clermont Lane in Ladue that is for sale. She had lived in the home as a young girl when she was attending Mary Institute. She said that it was unsettling through a house 70+ years later that has occupied her dreams for so long. From her stories, I can tell that she was a handful....and still is! She said that she put ribbons in my father's hair and paraded him down Clermont Lane, introducing him as her sister.
"Colonial farmhouse cape beautifully appointed with charm and character throughout. This home was carefully crafted over the years with a floor plan offering great utility while retaining a gracious flow of generously sized rooms. First floor center hall design offers a living room, sunroom, bar room, 3 season porch, gorgeous dining room, kitchen, large family room & 4th bedroom w/full bath. Completing the 1st floor is a large mud room w/laundry & charming powder room tucked under the main stair. All rooms with the exception of beds and baths have hardwood floors. Included throughout are beautiful windows, and many rooms with chair rail, crown molding, wainscote and original millwork. This is a striking house with beautiful patios & walkways surrounding the house, large drive with plenty of parking and pretty lawns with many flowering trees. This is a wonderful opportunity for a Buyer to live in one of the original residences of Ladue in a home with heart, character, grace and charm." $1,050,000

This week I went through one of my favorite homes in Ladue...the white-pillared home on Price. It is now on the market with Coldwell Banker's Ladue Office. I am told that this was the Arkansas display house from the World's Fair. My step grandmother, Grace Wallace Niedringhaus Wight, lived in this house as a young girl in first part of the 1900's. She told me that it was really out in the country at that time. The street car stopped at Busch's Grove. She said that things changed in the area when the St. Louis Country Club moved from Clayton to the present location in the 1920's. Then everyone started building homes in the area. She also grimaced when she heard that an owner after her family painted the pecan panelling white.

Here is another dose of my bad journalistic skills. Below is a picture of a house on Litzsinger Rd near Tilles Park. Someone once told me that during the 1904 World's Fair there were houses on display that typified various State's architecture. I think this one was for Rhode Island and was moved to Ladue after the Fair. If any one knows more or the location of other homes also used in the World's Fair, let me know.
(Update: see one of the comments. I got confirmation that is was the Rhode Island house from the 1904 World's Fair.)

Today I went to an estate sale in Ladue and saw this interesting home. It looks like a Bernoudy, though it is not. At this time I do not know who designed it. The home has these sleek, white terrazzo floors though-out it. I think it is going on the market soon, though it does need a lot of work. I have a call into the agent who the estate sale people think is listing it to find out a price. Contact me if you are interested in this home. It needs some love from someone who will appreciate it. The lot is very nice...which means that this house could be a tear-down target.
It has this enclosed pool that is sort of cool...though pretty rough in condition.
And how about this terrazzo-molded bath tub!
The ceiling in the kitchen.

Yesterday I had the pleasure of spending some time with Peter Shank, son of architect Isadore Shank, and touring his wonderful home. The home was built by his father and the family lived in it when Peter was growing up. Peter bought the Ladue home a few years ago when he moved back to St. Louis. Peter is an esteemed artist that frequently exhibits around St. Louis and the nation. Some of his works are currently on display at The Sheldon and The Frank Lloyd Wright House in Ebsworth Park.
Come back tomorrow for some more pics after you enjoy these.
