Happy Labor Day weekend! Well here is my pool in the new house. It is original to the Bernoudy house though my parents restored it a few years back. No filter. You just drain it once in a while. Small pools like this are called Martini pools or "crotch-coolers".
Well it turned out that my cork floors could not be sanded. They were cured with some sort of oil. The plan now is to wax them with a heavy dark-tinted wax. See the sample spot in blue. I think it will be cool and almost leatherish when I am done.
The bedrooms' cork floors are going to have to be ripped out and replaced. The cork was too damaged by the tack boards for wall to wall carpet.
Today I have commenced the project to refinish the original cork floors in my new home....a William Bernoudy-designed residence from 1950. The main house had a floating maple floor laid over the original cork with a lip when the floor transitioned to the brick tiles. I want the flooring to be original and all on the same plane. I am also removing the wall-to-wall carpets laid over the cork in the bedrooms. The cork will be sanded and refinished. The cork color is coffee. I am told that they created this color by baking the cork. It is going to make the house darker, though furniture and space rugs will lighten it up again. I am exciting about how quiet it will be to walk across them and the noise in the main house should be diminished during parties.
Demolition Today....does not look that pretty yet....though I am happy that the cork is in good shape!
Yesterday I went to the book signing for my Aunt Bunny's autobiography- Still Swinging in Wonderland. The event was at Rue Lafayette was packed with Bunny enthusiast. I wanted her to title the book- "Clowns, Cowboys and Convicts". The book is about her life as a debutante... life in the circus....marrying a Wyoming cowboy....living on our Missouri farm....and more.... I hear there is even an excerpt about the former Nazi Sex Slaves that she befriended while in the circus. Buy the book HERE!

Last night I attended a special reception at the Trova Project for the designers selected for the Ladue News Decorators Showcase. The Showcase will be held at my Bernoudy listing out in Town and Country this October. I am excited to see what the designers do to this fabulous home!
So busy and so many transitions! I moved out of my house last week and into my mother's guesthouse. Her new place is now ready and she moved today. It was fun cohabitating with my mom for a week!
I am going to move into the main house after the floors are done. More on that project later.
I flew up for the day to help my youngest son move into the freshman dorm at Marquette University in Milwaukee. He is staying in a cool Mid-century building.
My life will be quieter with both sons gone. I can use the extra time to get my new house in order so it will look great for their arrival back for Thanksgiving!

I was visiting a potential listing in Chesterfield on the border of Town and Country and came across this treat...an old slave cabin in the yard. You can see the old logs under the siding. This dates from the early 1800's.
Finally one of my most difficult sales have closed. This went under contract in February....Ugh! In order to meet the Buyer's request, I had to go through the process of having the condo complex VA Loan approved. I will never agree to doing that again! The rest of the condo owners will benefit greatly from my efforts when trying to sell their places. My file on this one is about 5" thick. Oh well....it is done and everyone is happy. I represented the Sellers.
I don't know if my planning was ideal, with needing to move out of my current house by the middle of this month and several real estate deals in the works, though I recently had two wonderful get-a-ways....the Pacific NW with one of my sons and brother....and I just got back from Provincetown on the Cape. Somehow I will get it all done. I also have both sons off to college this year. Does this mean I am now an empty nester? It will be a little quiet at the end of August. This will give me the opportunity to get my new house in order.

With the election coming soon, there will be a lot of miscommunication. One item that is floating around is the 3.8% sales tax on selling a home which is tied to the Health Care Reform Act. This tax may go into affect in 2013. This tax is confusing and only affects about 2% of the population.

Today my listing located at 8 Graybridge Lane closed. The Buyers wanted the house 20 years ago, when it was last on the market and lost out because of a competing offer. Finally, the house is now theirs! Patience can pay off!
