Recently I read an article that discussed how to decorate a huge room. Whether it is a mansion in the CWE of St. Louis, a McMansion with a two-story great room or a home with a large open living area....these spaces can be hard to decorate.
Here are some tips from the article:
- create a "can touch and feel" atmosphere using texture and the arrangement of furniture
- repeat the colors used to other portions of the house
- add decorative moldings
- hang large chandeliers
- cluster your seating arrangements
- use three rugs in an extra long room instead of one gigantic rug
- add full-length draperies
- pick out darker/richer paint colors
- use tall wainscoting and extra-wide chair rails that are a different color than the walls
- select higher-backed sofas, larger art and taller lamps
Here is an example of a NO NO
