I recently worked with a couple who used to live in Austin, Texas and was looking for a contemporary home in St. Louis. We have a stunning one under contract, though it was hard finding one in St. Louis. This one was not even for sale. This couple talked about how cool the homes are in Austin. This morning I was looking at The Contemporist blog and saw a cool one. I searched the blog for Austin homes and came up with a parade of exciting homes. Hello St. Louisans....it is time that we become more adventurous in our housing architecture. In the 40's- 60's we were hipper with the designs of Bernoudy, Harris Armstrong, Isadore Shank, Ralph Fournier and several other notable architects.
The demand for modern architecture is just not there in the St.Louis area unfortunately. If you build one and for some reason have to sell at a later date, good luck with that. Just look at the example on Reavis in Webster Groves.

It is a problem in St. Louis finding buyers for contemporary homes. They are out there. I think the biggest issue with the house on Reavis is the location. It is my experience that the contemporary buyer is often looking in the Western parts of St. Louis. Reavis also has a view of a large holding tank in the backyard.
