ArtFixSTL- last Saturday Night

Last Saturday night I attended ArtFixSTL held at 3rd Degree Glass on Delmar.  The party benefited Rebuilding Together St. Louis.  More Jeff Kapfer coverage....he donated one of his popular bird paintings.

Terry Crow for University City Mayor Event

Last night I attended a fund-raiser for Terry Crow who is running for University City Mayor.  The election is in April and if you are a U City resident, please find out more about Terry and get out and vote. It was held at the lovely Lindell home of Gary Werths and Richard Frimel.

Artist- Fern Taylor's Soup Party!

Fern Taylor's Soup Parties is a celebration of art and the art of making great soup. On Saturday she served a savory lobster bisque, mexican tortilla and a creative curried pumpkin/apple soup. I made sure that I had a nice bowl of each.

Contemporary Homes

Today I am giving you a parade of Contemporary homes all featured on the Contemporist Blog...though none are from St. Louis :(  I wish we had more contemporary homes in St. Louis. I know that there is a hunger for them. I have gotten many inquiries from people who are moving to St. Louis from other cities who are looking to buy a contemporary home, though good ones in St. Louis are a rarity. November Garden

I have not had a frost yet where I live and some of the plants are still blooming in my garden.

Queeny Christmas Cards

Edgar Queeny and his wife Ethel sent out these wonderful Christmas cards each year that the lucky recipients would quickly frame for safe-keeping. I am glad that my grandparents were on his mailing list! These are limited etchings from artist Richard Bishop.

Antique Shell Bottles

I don't know the history of these antique shell bottles that are out at our farm, though have always loved them.  I am surprised that they did not break over the years with four boys in our family.

Stark House, Pike County, MO

This has always been one of my favorite houses in Pike County, Missouri.  Built by the Stark family who were in the fruit tree market for years. One of the family members, Lloyd Stark, was our governor.  This house sits on a tight bend in the street and I am sure a few people have gone off the road while marveling at it.

50's Stone-wear

Once again I was rummaging around one of our houses at the farm and took a picture of some old 50's stone-wear.  My grandparents bought the farm in the 50's and there are nice remnants of 50's items still out there.

Birch Island, Maine

Our farm is a great place to hang special family items for everyone to enjoy. When I was at our farm yesterday, I took special notice of some framed poems written on birch bark.  Imagine spending the summer on an island in Maine and having the time to write a poem.These were written by a friend to my great grandfather.  Notice that in the rhyme below they misspelled "forest"....my great grandfather's last name was Forrest.

 

 

Outhouse

I took the day off to go to our farm today in Pike County. Gorgeous day. Hiked with my cousin Rosalee for about 4 miles. This is our fancy two-holed outhouse.

Fortuny Fabric

I grew up with Fortuny draperies in my parent's house that were passed down to my mother.  They originally were in the family's old Westmoreland house.  When I was married and my ex-wife's parents passed away, I was certain to make sure that we got her father's den set of a love chair and club chair upholstered in the most gorgeous burgundy and gold/pewter design.  It was perfect.  Well our cat named Delphi (short for delphinium or for the holy place in Greece) started to pee on the love seat. Fortuny is hand-dyed and any water or cleaning ruins the fabric.....not to mention the smell of cat pee.  We seriously thought about putting the cat to sleep.....my ex-wife would not let me do it.  Eventually the fabric was ruined and the pieces were reupholstered with something that would never equal the Fortuny.

Japanese maples

I am a little light on content so I am featuring a lovely Japanese maple in my parent's yard. Hopefully I will see something more interesting and inspiring tomorrow!

Pergo

I was going through some houses in Creve Coeur today and was amazed by all of the Pergo.  If you are thinking about putting down Pergo...don't.  If you have Pergo, you should start saving your money to replace it with real wood.  Pergo will be a detriment to selling your house.
