Vandeventer Place was one of the finest private developments located in St.Louis. The neighborhood started in 1870 and included a Henry Hobson Richardson house at #27. As the city grew and the new "in" streets of the CWE were being developed. The fashionable crowd moved west. Eventually in 1948 the neighborhood was torn down to make way for Veteran's Hospital on Grand.
One of the original gates was reconstructed behind the Jewel Box in Forest Park. Designed by Louis C. Mullgardt in 1894.
