Mid-Century Pool, University City

Who knows the story and architect of the funky mid-century pool located in someone's backyard on Yale Avenue in U City?

It looks sort of like a Morris Lapidus design.  Below is one of his sculptures from Lincoln Road in Miami's South Beach.

Deer In the House

The year was 1978 and my cousins out at our farm raised a fawn that was injured by someone driving a jeep through the field.  The fawn was allowed in the house and became a pet. I remember my aunt had this long cocktail table in their house. One time the deer jumped clear across the table from one end to the other.  The only problem with raising a deer is that they get pretty big and eventually have to go back to the wild. Unfortunately when they do not fear humans, they become an easy shot.

New Fox Theater Sign

I was driving by the Fox Theater the other night and saw their new sign!  It certainly gives a punch of wow to Grand Avenue.

Hotel Monaco- Portland, OR

The last couple of days I was in Portland, Oregon.  Portland has a vibrant downtown that was busy even in the evening with pedestrians.  The weather was in the 50's.  Do you know they can raise camellias in their gardens?  I am jealous.  I stayed at one of the Kimpton Hotels...Hotel Monaco.  I have always liked the Kimpton chain since the hotels are smaller boutique venues, they allow pets and the decorating is fun.  There is also a wine happy hour!

Charlie Houska Opening

Last night was the opening of Charlie Houska's exhibit at PHD Gallery. The show goes on for the next 6 weeks.

Clowns, Cowboys & Convicts

My Aunt Bunny has started a new blog Clowns, Cowboys & Convicts.  Read about her past and current adventures. Aunt Bunny was a young St. Louis deb...ran off to NYC to study ballet and ended up joining the circus as an elephant performer.  After she left the circus she fell in love with a cowboy while vacationing in Wyoming.  She raised her family with the cowboy husband at our farm in Pike County in a renovated one-room school house. Aunt Bunny's adventure continues. She performed the acrobats on a lyre for her 80th birthday in front of adoring friends and family. She now teaches Shakespeare to prisoners.

On New Year's Eve I went to a lovely party in Compton Heights.  See the pictures from yesterday.  Here are some shots to the wallpaper. This kind of wallpaper treatment is not for every house...though it fits perfectly in this vintage mansion.
